Smarty Ants Reading World is a comprehensive program that provides instruction and learning for phonological awareness, phonics, text comprehension, fluency, vocabulary development, print concepts, writing and more!

Data-Driven Instruction

The Smarty Ants Reading World program records every click that each student makes on his or her personalized learning path. Teachers see how quickly each student masters each reading skill, and how well students can recall and apply those skills as they build nearly 1,500 words and 67 stories.

By collecting this data for each skill, the Smarty Ants Reading World program is able to quickly recognize patterns which give insights into students who are having specific difficulties, and Smarty Ants Reading World provides immediate intervention and scaffolding specific to that issue.

Teacher's Dashboard

The Teacher's Dashboard is where the Smarty Ants Reading World program shares this student data with teachers in a concise and meaningful way, providing real-time insights into how each student is progressing and precisely where and when they are having difficulties. Standards mastery reports allow teachers to differentiate their instruction for large groups, small groups, and individual students.

English Language Learners

We know how difficult it is to teach in a classroom where many students have only partial mastery of English. We also know how difficult it is for these students. This is the reason we have created special versions of Smarty Ants Reading World for students whose primary language is Spanish or Korean (and coming soon we will have versions for Mandarin and Bahasa (Indonesia), too.

In these versions, as a student is taught to read in English, all of the instruction is delivered in the student's primary language. At any time the teacher can elect to change instruction to English.

360 Degree Individualized Learning

We believe students are most engaged and successful when they are allowed to make choices to modify the learning approach to match their learning temperament. Some students are highly risk averse, wanting to get the right answer every time. Other students don't want concepts explained in advance and don't want to practice or warm up.

Smarty Ants Reading World allows students to make choices to match any learning temperament. There are 72 different learning paths that students might follow for every new concept they learn.

The program also allows students to modify their learning path as their temperament changes moving through the Smarty Ants Reading World. Smarty Ants Reading World tracks the learning path of each student for each reading skill. This allows Smarty Ants Reading World to monitor progress as each student modifies his or her learning path and then determine how those changes affect that student's efficacy.

Authentic Literature

While students are working with phonological awareness and building early literacy skills, they are also exposed to Authentic Literature. In our Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade programs, students listen to and answer questions about a variety of popular children's stories in a game show format. This engaging activity not only models fluent reading and reading strategies, it helps students develop vocabulary, early awareness of prosody, reading fluency, and comprehension.

Comprehensive Curriculum

Smarty Ants Reading World incorporates over 250 interactive teaching modules to introduce new concepts, from letter sounds, to consonant digraphs, to suffix rules.

There are over 450 phonics learning songs, which reinforce concepts as they are introduced and letter sound bubbles to help students blend sounds to build words.

In the Smarty Ants Reading World, students learn “sight words” using the regular sounds they know, to scaffold around the irregular sounds.

Finally, definitions are provided for advanced words which explain colloquialisms and idioms.

Ease of Access

At Smarty Ants, we believe a lot of learning can and should happen at home. That is why every student who utilizes Smarty Ants Reading World at school, also receives a license to play at home. This allows students to connect at home on any computer at any time. This gives students the opportunity to continue their learning after school, during weekends, and even during the summer. All of the data of each student's progress is recorded and posted on the Teacher's Dashboard, so teachers can keep track of all learning regardless of where the student accesses the program.

Interactive Guided Practice Activities

Smarty Ants Reading World also includes interactive Guided Practice pages. These pages reinforce the skills students learn in each lesson. These online interactive pages are great because they give students the opportunity to apply what they've learned to a new situation.

Students complete the Guided Practice page activities on the computer. Also, since we know children often learn better when they write things down, teachers have the option of using a paper version with students too!

Additionally, we've added support in these Guided Practice pages for English Language Learners. Each set of Guided Practice activities includes a conversation between the characters from the lesson students just completed. Students practice saying these lessons orally, which develops their language skills. Therefore not only are children reinforcing the reading skills from each lesson with these interactive Guided Practice pages, they're learning important English conversation as well!
